Master Wheatley Seminar and
Black Belt Test
Over 40 students came
to Sylvania to train with Master Robert Wheatley February 13. Special
guest Masters who came and participated included Professor/Master Eugene
Humesky, Master Terry Batch, and Master Joseph Seszko. Students came
from five different Taekwon-do schools in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Ohio
to take part. Master Wheatley worked on the art of Taekwon-do.
Understanding why we do what we do in Taekwon-do and the importance of
understanding each move and technique, what it is used for, how it is
performed, and how to achieve the maximum power for each move.
 
On Sunday morning Master Wheatley did a 3rd
degree and above seminar on black belt patterns. All black belt
patterns were covered and examined. Those in attendance learned a lot
and came to a greater understanding of many of the moves in their patterns.
Prior to the seminar Master Wheatley conducted
a Black Belt testing. The following people promoted to the following
ranks 5th degree- Zac Taylor, 4th degree- Paul Taylor, 3rd
Degree Michael Carne, Mitchell Gorsha, 2nd degree Misty Smith,
Brittany Markward, Derek Larber, 1st degree Brandon Valiquette,
Michael Matrisciano, Marnica Yoeun, and Ian Sutherlin-Gorsha. Parents
and friends who came to watch were given a great show in Pattern technique,
self defenses, and breaking as well as other areas.

Emerald Cup
Mrs. Van
Zile and several of her students competed in the Emerald cup in Dublin,
Ireland, October 24, 2009. The next day they participated in the
Masters class taught by Master Wheatley. There were competitors and
student in attendance from not only Ireland, but from England, canada,
France and the US. Students who competed from the USA were: Mrs.
Van Zile, Mr. Chad Morishita from Utah, John Van Zile, Ben Van Zile,
Nicholas Piazza, Nick Larberg, Marissa Moseley, and Brittany Markward.
Also in Attendance from the USA were master Teri Batch and Mrs. Batch from
Midland Michigan, Mr. Patrick Toneff from Oregon, Ohio. The
competition involved team sparring. Our students did a great job
against the Irish and English teams which are currently among the top ranked
groups in the world.
Maumee Bay Tournament
Saturday September 26, 2009
September 26 Great Lakes Global Taekwon-Do and Toneff's Taekwon-Do hosted
the Maumee Bay Tournament. There were over 68 competitors from 5
different schools. Schools with competitors in the tournament included
Toneff's Taekwon-do from Oregon, Ohio, Seszko's International Taekwon-do
from Martins Ferry, Ohio, Batch's Taekwon-do Training Centers from Midland,
Michigan; White's Taekwon-do from Toronto, Canada, Columbus Baptist Temple
Taekwon-do from Columbus, Ohio and our school Great Lakes Taekwon-do.
Students could compete in individual patterns, sparring, power breaking and
team patterns. The tournament began at 10:00 and was finished at 2:30
with all students completing their divisions.

ITF International Instructors Seminar
Reno, Nevada, USA
July 31 - August 2, 2009 US-ITF and Wheatley Taekwon-Do
presented the International Instructors Course with Master Choi Jung Hwa, with Co-Instructors: Master Robert N.
Wheatley, Master Trevor Nicholls, and Master Harry, and Mr. Kruk.. Over 100
people attended the event. It was three days of intensive work on
pattern technique emphasizing the proper development of power. Master
Choi in describing taekwon-do described it as "A style in constant motion".
Each technique has a specific purpose and delivery. Learning how to
bring out the "art" in our taekwon-do was worked on during the seminar.
It was an excellent seminar.
